George Jackson, president of the DEGC and Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s
chief development officer, helped bring the two sides together. He
hailed the agreement today as more likely to make something happen than
the two groups operating separately.

“The mayor and I are
very pleased that Ernie and [attorney] Gary Spicer are now working with the
conservancy,” Jackson said. “And we hope that the fundraising effort is
successful, because it would bring both development and a significant
historical facility” in the preserved portions of the stadium.
