Counties come together in historic partnership to serve families in need

Gleaners Community Food Bank and the Food Bank of Oakland County boards of directors unanimously approved the resolutions for the merger and the official name of the combined organization is Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

On Friday, August 5, 2005 at the intersection of 8 Mile and Dequindre starting at 10:00 AM.  Speaker of the House, Craig DeRoche, Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano and Phil Bertolini, Deputy County Executive of  Oakland County will join Gleaners’ president and CEO, Agostinho ‘Augie” Fernandes to cut the ceremonial ribbon holding back food bank trucks which can now operate efficiently between Wayne and Oakland Counties.

Speaking with Model D, newly appointed President Agostinho Fernandes said, “There are no boundaries to helping neighbors in need.  This is a significant ceremony as well as a historic day for South Eastern Michigan – we have come closer together as a region.”
