Our next speaker series event will be at 5:30 p.m. March 23 at the
Majestic Theatre, 4120 Woodward Ave., in Midtown. We're teaming up with
the Detroit Declaration movement, WDET, the Michigan Front Page, and the
Majestic to bring you a political forum and State of the City viewing
party. Sign up below to attend.
There
will be presentations, but we also want the audience to share
ideas, observations and thoughts, as well. Update:
WDET 101.9 FM's Craigh Fahle will host a post-State of the City discussion.
The schedule is as follows:
5:30 p.m. Check-in and networking.
6 p.m. Presentation and discussion from the Detroit Declaration grassroots movement, plus poetry presentation from
Inside Out's Detroit poets.
7 p.m. State of the City viewing.
Immediately following the State of the City we'll have a public forum to share ideas and reaction to Mayor Bing's speech.
The
event is free and open to the public, and will be nonsmoking. Please sign up below to attend. Parking
is available in the Majestic lot for $4.
If you are not familiar, the
Detroit Declaration is a new grassroots movement working to create a unified voice and voting block. Their mission
is to bring together the "growing tide of consensus about what our city
must do differently to thrive." All of the Detroit Declaration drafters are community and civic
leaders. Watch their video below to learn more about the Declaration.
The Model D Speaker Series is being co-hosted this month by the
Michigan Front Page and the Detroit Declaration. The Speaker Series is sponsored by the
Michigan State Housing Development Authority,
Henry Ford Health Systems,
Wayne State University and the
Detroit Medical Center. We thank the Majestic for hosting us again.
