The first ever season of the
Detroit City Futbol League started back in May. Eleven soccer teams from
neighborhoods around the city -- and Hamtramck -- took to Belle Isle for the inaugural
season. Each week, the league brought out nearly 300
participants, mostly from the city, but a smattering of suburbanites participated as
well. Vuvuzelas were optional.
Model D writer and sometimes audio/visual mastermind Terry Parris Jr. brings us this report from the season.
Saturday, July 31, will mark the Copa
Detroit, the final game of the season, to determine one neighborhood's futbol dominance in
the city of Detroit. Come out for the party, for the futbol, and for
Detroit. For more information on Copa Detroit, click
