We were on to something when we thought you wanted to kayak the river. The first two Kayak Detroit dates filled up in just a couple days, so Riverside is offering more dates to get people
paddling on the Detroit River. And the tours will benefit building up the East Side greenways.
Riverside Kayak will offer tours at 10 a.m.-noon June 5 (full), 9 a.m.-noon June 27 (the 1-4 p.m. slot is full); 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 31; 5:30-8 p.m. Aug.
10; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 18.
The tours will include a guided paddle through the river and East
Side
canals, and will highlight the river's ecological comeback. The kayak
tour will depart from
Maheras
Gentry Park. You must register through Riverside Kayak in advance,
as there are a limited number of spots available. The deadline to
register is June 1.
The kayak tours will be a a fundraiser for the
Detroit
Eastside Community Collaborative and
Creekside
Community Development Corp. DECC is working on the Conner Creek Greenway, which will run from the Detroit River to 8 Mile Road.
To register for the tours, call 734-285-2925. The cost is $35, and Riverside provides kayaks and equipment. Sign up fast, they're filling 'yaks
like crazy.
