Two Model D events this month:
• Model D is teaming up with
Inside Detroit to offer a tour of the Eastern Market neighborhood. There's more to the venerable market than the glorious offerings of Saturday morning. There's nightlife, great dining, cool places to live and a burgeoning creative culture.
See for yourself on this walking tour guided by Inside Detroit.
The cost is $5 for the tour, which will last from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. May 18. That's also
Flower Day at the market.
The tour will start at
Rocky Peanut Co. at 2849 Russell St.

Mark Nickita of Archive DS will return with real Detroit examples of sustainability. Part one of this topic, explored in March, proved extremely popular, so we're bringing it back.
Other speakers will be Chris Bray of the Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance, whose
Gratiot Woods developments are fine examples of sustainable urbanism in action; and
Diane VanBuren Jones of WARM Training,
who spearheaded getting the
American Institute of Architects' sustainability audit for Detroit.
As always, the event is free, but you must
sign up as seating is limited. The event starts with sign in at 5 p.m., followed by the program at 5:30 p.m., at the
Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Isle.
Networking and light refreshments are offered before and after the hour-long program. There's a cash bar and unbeatable view of the Detroit River, too.
The series is sponsored by the
Michigan State Housing Development Authority and the Detroit Yacht Club.
