Live 6

Video: Detroit Sip owner hopes to be catalyst for Live6 corridor

The Live6 On the Ground series was an opportunity to learn about the communities along the Livernois and 6 Mile corridors as they come to terms with the economic shifts taking place in the neighborhoods. Along the way, the challenges, joys, and doubts about what the future will look like rose to the surface—all features of any dynamic community trying to determine a new path ahead. Over the course of this series, we had robust conversations with business owners, students, residents, and leaders about what it takes to make a healthy community.

Jevona Watson is one such resident and business owner making her own mark in the neighborhood, and her story is one that encapsulates the spirit of the Live6 community. She plans to open a coffee shop, Detroit Sip, on McNichols Road in early 2017. A native of the Bagley neighborhood, her story of revitalizing her own neighborhood is emblematic of the tenacity of the people who live, work, and play in Live6.

This story is part of Model D's "On the Ground" series, which gives voice to the community members, businesses, and developers who make the Live6 neighborhood come alive. Support for this series is provided by the Kresge Foundation
