A
market and the restaurant are planned to open soon in Riverfront
Towers, and both will be accessible from West Jefferson or the Joe
Louis People Mover station.
The businesses are part of
Riverfront’s $10 million renovation project, which also includes
upgrades such as a health and fitness center and a dry cleaner.
In
June, Riverfront will open the 5,000-square-foot Signature Market. The
market will carry gourmet deli items, specialty foods, wine, liquor,
flowers and fresh meats and produce.
Signature Grille and Bar
will open on May 25 with an American menu served in a dining room with
spectacular views of the Detroit River. Located in the Riverfront
Towers complex between towers 200 and 300, Signature will offer entrees
such as certified Angus beef tenderloin and Chilean sea bass,
appetizers such as lump meat crab cakes with citrus remoulade, dinner
salads, sandwiches, wraps, and soups; simpler fare will be available at
the bar. Chef Warren Thomas, who has previously worked with Opus One,
Tribute, Encore and Virtuoso, it at Signature’s culinary helm.
Brothers
Sam and Bert Sugayan will co-own Signature. Their mother, Chuckie
Sugayan, who has been in restaurant business for 18 years and is
serving as consultant to the Signature, has been interested in opening
a restaurant at the Riverfront since her family lived there in the
early 1990’s. “There are so many amenities, it’s an ideal situation.
The views, the water, the People Mover. Plus, when you see [the
restaurant], it’s incredible.”
The restaurant will be open 11
a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11 a.m.- midnight, Friday and
Saturday. On special occasions or for private parties, Signature will
open for Sunday brunch.
Ron Rea and Roman Bonislawski of Ron and

decoration and construction of the restaurant and market.
