A piece of land designated as an historic area at 1329 Bagley, in Corktown between Brooklyn and 8th, is being developed into a single family home.
Randa Haurani is building an approximately 2,800-square-foot home that she plans to move into by Christmas. “The requirement to build on that lot was that the exterior had to match the façade of the other homes,” she said. “The color, design and style had to complement that neighborhood.” She had full freedom with the interior layout and opted for a design with a Mediterranean touch.
She said she chose to move here from Gross Pointe because “this is the most diverse, helpful and caring community one will find.” Haurani plans to live in this home for many years with her husband and raise their future family here. “Detroit is coming back and is a happening place that I want to be right here,” she said. “You see new restaurants popping up, new retail stores around the corner, and people are putting their own capital into buying a new place, fixing it up and moving in.” This trend is starting to help property prices in the area, she said, since you see updated quality construction on rich, beautiful buildings.
