Factory, a custom screen printing shop, has moved to Hamtramck on
Joseph Campau. Besides screen printing designs on t-shirts, clothing
and other materials, they also provide custom digital designed
embroidery work and vintage vinyl heat transfers.
Husband and wife team Nate Buker and June Hankins have operated
their screen printing business for over a year at home before moving
their operations to a new store front on 10022 Joseph Campau, located
between Belmont and Yemans in the former Detroit Threads location. The
couple owns the building and decided to have a store where walk-in
customers can place orders.
Hankins was the owner of Curly’s Boutique and Gallery in Hamtramck,
which was open for six years in the early '90s. Buker has lots of
experience in the screen printing business, and is also the sound
operator for the Old Miami bar on Cass. Art Factory also has a range of
original t-shirt designs, including Detroit apparel, for sale on their
website, http://www.detroitartfactory.com/index.htm, and in the store.
“We’re really happy to be in Hamtramck; things are booming here and we’re planning on staying,” says Buker.
