The Salvation Army is preparing to open a new thrift store in Corktown at 1200 Fort St., across from Wayne County Community College's downtown campus. The 24,000-square-foot store will open Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. and will begin accepting donations on Monday, Sept. 18.
The new store is part of the Salvation Army's
$27 million renovation of its Southeast Michigan Adult Rehabilitation Center just down the street. Colleen Kinney, Salvation Army's Director of Community Relations, says that the organization is in the process of opening new and bigger stores around the area as well as remodeling older stores. "It's a cleaner look with good signage and an organized sales floor. We pride ourselves on keeping our stores well-staffed."
The store entrance and donation drop-off will be off the parking lot to the east of the building. Its hours will be Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday; donations will also be accepted on Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
The center's renovation will be completed by its dedication, which is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, Kinney says.
