The first seven of an estimated thirty homes is now complete in the first phase of North Corktown. A ribbon cutting event is being planned for the 29th of this month. Kelli Kavanaugh of the Greater Corktown Development Corporation (GCDC), said 'this event also celebrates our designation as a State of Michigan Cool Cities Neighborhood and will feature music by neighborhood artists and the food will be sponsored by a soon-to-open local restaurant, Slow's Bar BQ".
When asked about the homes, Kavanaugh said, 'these homes are sold at affordable prices, from $80,000 to $90,000, but they actually cost around $140,000 to build. The difference is being bridged by federal and state organizations along with participation from our local city and foundations".
Phase I is projected to be complete and occupied by the winter of 2006. Following that, Phase II will feature an additional hundred homes.
“While most of the homes in Phase I are reserved, there are still a handful of vacancies”, says Kavanaugh. For detailed information on qualification requirements and pricing, please visit here: GCDC.
