Hoot’s on the Avenue bar and restaurant opened recently at “The Corner”
of Michigan and Trumbull, across the street from old Tiger Stadium in
Corktown. Located in the former Shelley’s on the Avenue, Hoot’s is
attracting, “lots of old customers and lots of new ones, too,” says
co-owner Kim DeRidder.
Hoot’s offers homemade soups, a variety of salads and sandwiches,
burgers, and fresh fish. “We bake our own ham and turkey every day,”
states DeRidder. Hoot’s is focused on affordability, with daily dollar
drink specials offered and no food item priced over $7.95.
DeRidder was focused on re-opening Hoot Robinson’s, located just one
block north of her new bar, when Shelley’s came on the market. Now that
she owns both, she’s not certain what she will do with the old Hoot’s,
but one thing is for certain: “I will continue to invest money in
Corktown. I love it here.”
