Highland Manor Apartments, a new 48-unit apartment complex in Highland Park, began accepting tenants on March 1. Wendy Rowland, regional manager for Continental Management, says about half the units are reserved and eight families have already moved in. The development is located just west of Woodward behind The Shops at Woodward Place.
Highland Manor has 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom apartments that rent for $603 to $629 depending on income and 1,150-square-foot three-bedroom apartments that rent from $667 to $693. There is a clubhouse, on-site manager, washer and dryer, carports and a computer room.
Highland Manor occupies four acres of a 10-acre site that once housed a Sears store that closed in 1992.
HP Devco, Highland Park's non-profit development agency, acquired the parcel in the late 1990's and weathered several failed attempts at its redevelopment before Shops at Woodward Place and Highland Manor succeeded.
Call 313-867-4585 to reach Highland Manor. For the time being, Continental will pay for up to $750 of costs with Two Men and a Truck moving company to move into the complex.
