The City of Hamtramck has plans to construct a 3-story parking garage adjacent to the National City Bank on Jos. Campau at Caniff.
The deck will include 6,000 square feet of retail on its first floor that community and economic development director Erik Tungate plans to market to a national chain. He hopes the development will “set the stage for a new trend of national retail that complements our existing retail.”
Financing options are being explored, and negotiations are underway to provide dedicated parking in the structure for National City employees and customers. The deck entrance and the retail will both front Jos. Campau.
Tungate says, for the north end of the city's shopping district, the deck will “definitely be a shot in the arm.”
He hopes to see construction on the deck begin before the end of the year.
