Fountain Bistro at Campus Martius Park will open in the restaurant space formerly occupied by Au Bon Pain in mid-May. Expect changes, says owner John Lambrecht, who is also a partner in
Bookie's Bar & Grill. "I think people in the city really support small business owners, and it's great being a small business owner in the city because of that," he says. "Hopefully we will offer a lot more personality than a corporate restaurant can offer."
The restaurant's layout is changing to include a carry-out area as well as full-service dining, both in the restaurant and on the patio. Lambrecht says to expect comfortable dining furniture and local art, rotated monthly, displayed on the walls.
Breakfast will include French press coffee, quiche and casseroles as well as options like bagels and scones. Lunch and dinner will focus on soups, salads and panini, with added featured items for dinner. Delivery is an option, and a full range of espresso drinks will be available.
Fountain Bistro's hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with extended hours during special events.
Campus Martius was recently named as the first ever recipient of the Amanda Burden Urban Open Space Award by the Urban Land Institute. This national award recognizes an outstanding example of a public open space that has catalyzed the transformation of the surrounding community.
