Three young entrepreneurs will open a new restaurant, The Brunch
Factory, in downtown's Lower Woodward corridor this August. The
moderately-priced breakfast and lunch eatery will occupy the
Schostak-owned first-floor space in the
Lofts at Merchants Row building, which once housed Frank Taylor's Detroit Breakfast House & Grille.
The 3,900 sq. ft. space has been vacant for about a year, says Kees
Janeway of
Stokas Bieri Real Estate, who worked on the lease. "The
property was tied up in bankruptcy court until late September or early
October," he says. They also struck a deal with the courts to retain all
the kitchen equipment.
The owners, Stavros Adamopolis, Tom Teknos and Maurice
Wiggins, all have experience as restaurateurs and cafe owners in Metro
Detroit. "My partners are excited about being a part of revitalization
of downtown Detroit," Teknos says. "The city of Detroit has been working very hard to
bring entrepreneurs to Detroit and we are extremely happy to be a part
of it."
He says The Brunch Factory plans to be open seven days a
week until 3 p.m. They plan to apply for a liquor license to serve
Mimosas, Bloody Marys, and other brunch-themed cocktails (though there
won't be an actual bar).
While Janeway couldn't comment on the specific terms of the deal, he says
the agreement has proved to be a winner for both Schostak and The
Brunch Factory team.
"The Schostaks are interested in the revival of
Detroit, and they're making deals that make sense for their tenants, and
themselves," he says. "The Schostaks understand restaurants, because it's a huge
chunk of their business. There's a lot of thought that went into constructing this deal."
