Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance is redeveloping the three-story Corsi Building on Gratiot at I-94. Its ground floor will be 2,500 square feet of commercial and the upper floors will be four condo units, each 1,250 square feet.
DCPA executive director Chris Bray says that a bakery has signed a lease for half the commercial space. It is currently run by the Capuchin monks out of their existing soup kitchen facility. He says, "They work with ex-offenders to teach them baking
skills. It has been tremendously successful
with churches, and now they want a retail establishment and a permanent baking facility."
Bray says the condos will sell in the $150 to $160 per square foot range and are NEZ-designated. Much of the work on the condos has been completed, and a model will be done by September.
The development cost for the entire project is $1.1 million and is being financed through Detroit Commerce Bank and the
Non-Profit Finance Fund; it also received small subsidies from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and the Development Corporation of Wayne County.
