Corktown's annual home and garden tour this Sunday

Corkown’s 20th Annual Home & Garden Tour will take place Sunday, June 4, from noon to 5 p.m. and will showcase 12 homes as well as several gardens. In addition, realtor open houses will be held at several homes that are for sale in the neighborhood including the under-development Grinnell Lofts.

Rob McDonald, member of the Home Tour Committee of the Corktown Historical Society, promises this tour will be “the best ever.” The committee has had 20th Annual Commemorative Pewabic tiles produced that depict the Workers Rowhouse, Corktown’s oldest house that is currently being developed into a museum. The tiles—produced in a limited run of just 50—will be available for $40 on the day of the tour only.

The tour begins and ends at the Gaelic League located at 2066 Michigan Avenue—tickets can be purchased for $12 on the day of the tour. A shuttle bus will be available all day.

In cooperation with the tour, Greater Corktown Development Corporation is hosting a Corktown Reunion at 1500 Sixth Street, just doors down from the Worker Rowhouse. The event is intended to give an opportunity for people that once lived in the neighborhood to gather together and share pictures and stories of time spent in the neighborhood. The reunion will be held from 12:30 – 4 p.m.; there will be refreshments and a cash bar. For more information about the Corktown Reunion, call Tim McKay at 313-965-5853 x29.
