Corktown and New Center were both recently designated as Cool Cities
Neighborhoods in Progress by the State of Michigan. Both neighborhoods
now have priority access to state grant funds, loans, tax credits, and
other that can help their communities become even more vibrant. To this
end, both neighborhoods are holding meetings on March 28 to allow area
residents and business-owners an opportunity to learn more about State
of Michigan resources that may be available to them.
New Center Council will host their neighborhood’s meeting from 11:30
a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Suite L150 at Cadillac Place. New Center’s Cool
Cities project calls for the construction of an outdoor movie
screen/band shell at New Center Park, located at the southwestern
corner of West Grand Boulevard and Second.
Corktown’s meeting, hosted by Greater Corktown Development Corp., will
be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gaelic League, located at 2066 Michigan
Ave. The Corktown Cool Cities award will help restore the Workers
Rowhouse Museum into an interpretive site, office, and meeting space.
This meeting will also include a presentation from Michigan Department
of Transportation regarding plans for the reconstruction of Michigan
between the Lodge and I-96.
State employees will be at both meetings. For more information, contact
Karen Gage in New Center at 313.872.0188 or Tim McKay in Corktown at
313.965.5853.
