First National Building
The Albert Kahn-designed Neoclassical limestone skyscraper was completed in 1930 and has an unusual "Z" shape meant to maximize natural light and ventilation. Acquired by Dan Gilbert in 2011, $40 million in upgrades are planned for the building, which is about 800,000 square feet and occupies an entire block along Cadillac Square overlooking Campus Martius Park. A 15,000-square-foot Papa Joe's Gourmet Market is scheduled to open on the ground level in early 2014.
