Crystal Lofts to add new life to a grand ballroom
Built in 1919, the building known as the Crystal Ballroom — located on the corner of Woodward and Watson in Brush Park — will soon become lofts and space for retail.
Part of the first phase of the development plan for the 3100 block of Woodward, the Crystal Lofts will feature a fusion of exterior historic renovation and contemporary interior construction. The exterior of the old ballroom will be restored to its original character, while the interior will offer modern mixed-use space.
The first floor of the building will offer 12,380 square feet of commercial/retail space. The second floor will be divided into 16 residential units with 25-foot ceilings, which include a mezzanine level, ranging from 990 to 1,980 square feet. An additional level will be added to the structure to house four penthouse units with floor to ceiling glass ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, plus private rooftop terraces. There will also be a community rooftop terrace that all residents will have access to. Prices will range from $185 to $240 per square foot, with Neighborhood Enterprise Zone status.
“This block is a critical piece in creating a seamless walk down Woodward from the stadiums to the Medical Center, it is the last major vacant parcel,” says Dwight Belyue, owner of Belmar Development Group.
Phase two of the 3100 block will consist of approximately 175 residential units, 15,000 square feet of commercial/retail space, and the construction of a new King David Lodge Headquarters.
Work on phase one is set to start in December, and should be finished late summer 2006.
