The great urban race: We got pictures from Criterium Detroit City

As hundreds of people lined the downtown course, competitive racers of all ages zipped around city streets from Saturday morning until late afternoon. Marvin Shaouni brought his camera and came back with some speedy images.

It was hot and stayed hot for last weekend’s inaugural Criterium Detroit City, a daylong series of competitive bicycle races that included participants of all age groups and stretched across an urban course that began at the Boll Family YMCA, headed north on Broadway around the Detroit Opera House, back south through Paradise Valley to Gratiot and then took a hard right back onto Broadway. The race began and ended at John R.

There were dozens and dozens of cyclists and hundreds of spectators, many standing along key destination points like Detroit Brewing Company, Small Plates and Bert’s on Broadway. Model D photographer Marvin Shaouni was there to chase it all down.
