In all, the neighborhood has been the recipient of more than $70
million in cleanup and building initiatives including being a part of
the Next Detroit Neighborhood Initiative communities and Skillman
Foundation’s Good Neighborhoods Initiative, [John O’Brien, executive director of Northwest Detroit Neighborhood Development] said.
It now has more than 15 after-school programs and claims Gompers Elementary, one of the city’s highest-performing schools.
