Sweet Georgia Brown owners open Merchants Row breakfast spot
Downtown restaurateurs Frank Taylor and ex-Detroit Lion Robert Porcher — owners of hotspots Seldom Blues and Sweet Georgia Brown — plan to open their latest endeavor, the Detroit Breakfast House & Grill, on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
The restaurant will be the first of the planned retail businesses to open below the Lofts of Merchants Row, says Linda Busse of Schostak Bros., developers of the Woodward Ave. lofts and retail space.
Taylor says there is a lack of upscale breakfast places Downtown. “We wanted to establish a place that Detroiters can wake up to, a place that puts you in a great mood,” he says.
The interior boats yellow, vibrant colors with several vertical mahogany beams representing the sun’s rays. A fireplace will offer a warm spot to watch the news and read the morning paper.
Even with the elegant decor, the prices will be reasonable, he says. “We want to see the same customers every day. This isn’t a place that you can only afford once a week.”
The menu will include familiar favorites with updated twists, including five variations of eggs Benedict. Breakfast will be served all day long, and with a special brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There also will be a full bar, as well as room for private meetings. Merchants Row residents can order room service, too.
The restaurant will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
