What does professional football have to do with shopping? Not much, right? But a neighborhood retail initiative led by the Detroit Lions’ Living for the City program in partnership with local retail contest Hatch Detroit is now part of a citywide campaign to support storefront businesses throughout the city.

The launch of the project, including a visit to the Avenue of Fashion with Detroit Lions players (past and present) Mel Farr, Charlie Sanders, Cliff Avril and Rob Sims, was seen in this video last December.

Enjoy the video above. It’s part 3 in a three-part series. In case you missed them the first time around, here is part 1 and part 2.

This is a pretty big deal for Hatch, expanding their scope from a single annual contest to six retail districts around Detroit. And it’s pretty personal for the Lions, whose alumni players shared fond memories of visiting destinations like Livernois between Seven Mile and Eight Mile roads in its heydey.

Thanks to the Detroit Lions for inviting us along, and to DETROIT LIVES! for capturing it all on video.
