Refuel Media looks to take on more clients, add 1 or 2 jobs this year

Not all separations are spiteful. Some turn into something beautiful. That's the case with Archive DS and Refuel Media.

Kevin Borsay helped found downtown-based Archive DS in 1991, working the graphic end of the business for the architectural firm. As the company grew, more and more graphic work came Borsay's way. It was enough that he became the lead partner to spin-off Refuel Media (he is still a partner at Archive DS) six years ago.

"We increasingly got more and more graphic clients through Archive," Borsay says.

He teamed up with the former design editor for Crain's Detroit Business, Michael Ban, and has steadily grown the business. The firm now does a lot of work for Wayne State University and local developers, such as designing graphics and putting together web sites.

Refuel Media also revamped the web site for the Karmanos Cancer Center. It has been so successful that the four-person firm hopes to hire another designer or two within the next year or two.

Refuel Media hasn't left its roots, still sharing office space with Archive DS on the top of the Guardian Building. Borsay also has a hand in the Rowland Café on the skyscraper's ground floor, the Stella International Cafe in the Fisher Building and the Pure Detroit shops.
