Albert Kahn is one of those names that is forever entwined in Detroit and the company he founded still finds success in the Motor City 113 years later.
Of the 270 employees at
Albert Kahn Family of Companies, 220 of them are based out of its offices in New Center. The firm also has operations in Alabama, Mexico and Brazil.
Even though the name is synonymous with architecture, the firm also specializes in engineering, design, planning and management. It has used its expertise in those areas to grow its revenue and employee count by 10 percent.
"Our goal is to have 80 percent of our growth in repeat businesses and the other 20 percent in first-time customers," says Steve Whitney, president and CEO of Albert Kahn Family of Companies.
The firm is looking to focus much of its growth around the Sunbelt states as it follows the migration of the Baby Boom generation.
