Power Panel gears up for solar panel production at new space

Power Panel is on the move, finding a new home on the west of the Detroit near Chicago Boulevard and the Schaefer Highway where it plans to begin production of its new dual solar panel.

Solar panels generally do one of two things. They either warm water piped through tubes or generate electricity. The former TechTown start-up is developing a solar panel that does both at the same time. Power Panel moved to a 22,000-square-foot space in April where it is working on its prototypes and preparing for larger production.

"We have a lot of people looking at this system," says Garth Schultz, CEO of Power Panel. "Hopefully, this turns into contracts."

Power Panel employs 14 people and is currently raising capital so it can continue prototype development and production preparation. Schultz hopes to be manufacturing the solar panels by early next year, which would require adding another 10-15 people.
