coGs creates six jobs with kid-focused design firm

Too many people say "What about the children?" disingenuously. Chandra Moore is basing her business, coGs, around it.

The 1-year-old design firm focuses on creating spaces that accommodate the needs of children. Moore points out that many spaces made for kids often are designed by adults who unknowingly are creating spaces more with the wants and needs adults in mind.

"People don't think about things like height of windows or colors," Moore says. "Some rooms are pink and it makes kids think of medicine and they don't like medicine."

Moore is growing coGs in the Detroit Creative Corridor Center, located in Detroit's New Center neighborhood. She currently oversees a staff of six employees and two interns which are working on spaces in places like the Detroit Edison Public School Academy. She expects to continue growing her coGs with the help of the Detroit Creative Corridor Center.

"The Detroit Creative Corridor Center opened up a couple of things for me," Moore says. "It felt like it was a little more organized. They were ready to help and prepared to give us support."
