Model D Speaker Series: Detroit’s music scene
Our next Model D Speaker Series covers a topic filled with local passion: the Detroit music scene. The talk will hit various threads — the state of the sound, the local industry, the economics of the scene and its sustainability.

Join us Aug. 25 for a conversation about the state of the music industry in Detroit. What’s the Detroit sound right now? How has the music scene changed over the last decade? What is music’s role in our local economy and cultural tourism? Detroit hosts a lot of big music events — Movement, Blowout, Jazz Fest — but is it sustainable for musicians to perform and live here year-round? How do we build a stronger infrastructure to promote and support local talent?
Those questions and others will be part of the discussion, on Thursday, Aug. 25 on the patio deck (weather permitting) at the Magic Stick, inside the Majestic Theatre Complex, 4120 Woodward Ave., in Detroit’s Midtown. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Program begins at 6 p.m.
