The Detroit Zen Center

11464 Mitchell
Corner of Mitchell and Caniff

313-366-7738

The Detroit Zen Center opened in Hamtramck in 1993 and now includes a Korean-style garden, a meditation hall, and a residence which houses and serves the center's members.

Engaged in the study and practice of Zen, with primary emphasis on sitting meditation, The Zen center offers Sunday and Wednesday services that are open to the public as well as daily Zen meditation sitting services held for members.  Also offered are yoga and Yun-do classes, organic lunches on Saturdays, weekend and week-long retreats and introductory programs to Zen Buddhism.

The Zen Center also founded the "Our Homes" Program (a non-profit organization that assists limited income home owners to renovate, reconstruct, and make home repairs) and an organic food program that distributes organically grown produce to those interested.

If you are unfamiliar with Buddhism but are curious, the center offers a Newcomer’s Introductory Service every other Sunday, which includes a talk and tea ($5 donation is requested).  Call for an orientation appointment:  313-366-7738.
