Campus Martius Park

The intersection where Michigan, Woodward, Monroe and Cadillac meet

Campus Martius is a roughly 2-acre park located at Woodward and Monroe, and features a skating rink in the winter and concerts year-round.

A Bit of History from campusmartiuspark:

After the fire of 1805, Judge Woodward was appointed to oversee the plan to lay out the streets, squares and lots with the assistance of the best surveyors from Canada. They placed their instruments and astronomical devices on the summit of a huge stone. He viewed the planets and meteors in order to determine “true North”. Today we still call this point the “Point of Origin” which is located in center of Campus Martius at the junction of Woodward and Monroe. It is from this point that the City of Detroit’s Coordinate system was created.

Located at the heart of downtown, directly in front of the new Compuware Headquarters, Campus Marius Park is strategically poised to be a significant and contributing factor to the rebirth of downtown Detroit. Campus Martius Park's unique and central location on Detroit's main street - Woodward Avenue - provides the critical foundation from which real revitalization can take hold, connect, and spread to other downtown activity centers.
