Breaking with recent tradition, our October Speaker Series moves to the early morning hours for a conversation with national land-use strategist, developer and Brookings Institution fellow, Christopher Leinberger.
In his 2008 book,
The Option of Urbanism, Leinberger investigates the government policies that contributed to suburban sprawl and describes a new American Dream where people can live, work and play within easy walking distance. He calls on the financial and real estate communities to build communities that are more environmentally, socially and financially sustainable.
Leinberger is a founding partner of Arcadia Land Company, a transit-oriented development and consulting firm, and the founding director of the Graduate Real Estate Development Program at the University of Michigan. Voted one of the "Top 100 Urban Thinkers" by Planetizen, he was the recipient of the William H. Whyte Award from Partners for Livable Communities in 2010. Leinberger also serves as the President of LOCUS: Responsible Real Estate Developers and Investors.
The speaker series is this Friday, Oct. 7, 8 a.m. at Detroit Creative Corridor Center, 460 West Baltimore, Detroit's New Center.
