Neighborhoods are dynamic places – residents and businesses come and go (some stay longer than others) and the physical spaces they inhabit change. Sentiments about neighborhoods, too, can fluctuate. What was once considered a "bad" and "unsafe" place can become the next fashionable area, and vice versa.
Since 2005, Model D has told stories of positive neighborhood transformation, from the development of new businesses to the redevelopment of old buildings to the perseverance of long-term residents in the face of challenges. As we celebrate our 10
th anniversary, we invite you to experience neighborhood transformation in Detroit firsthand through the Detroit Experience Series,
a partnership between
Model D and the
Detroit Experience Factory.
Starting in September, DXF will lead monthly tours that will re-introduce (or simply introduce) you to the small businesses and people that Model D has covered over the last 10 years. Tours will visit the following neighborhoods:
Southwest Detroit (Saturday, September 26, 10 a.m.-noon) – Includes Corktown, Mexican Town, Clark Park, Hubbard Farms, and the West Vernor business district. (

Northwest Detroit (Saturday, October 24, 10 a.m.-noon) – Includes Palmer Woods, Sherwood Forest, University District, and the Avenue of Fashion. (
