Landmark deli Mr. Fo-Fo’s building purchased and will be remodeled

A Boston-Edison-area building housing the landmark deli and soul food restaurant Mr Fo-Fo's has been purchased by Central Detroit Christian Community Development Corp.

Mr. Fo-Fo's Delicatessen has been located on 2nd Avenue and Hazelwood for 30 years. The restaurant will continue under the same ownership. It will remain closed while the the CDC is remodeling the building. Central Detroit Christian will also add its own ice cream shop, the Freez.

The nonprofit faith-based organization provides job training and housing assistance to families in the central Detroit area. Lisa Johanon, Executive Director of the CDC, says the remodeling and addition of the Freez should be finished and opened for Fourth of July. Johanon says Mr. Fo-Fo's dining area will be increased by 700-square-feet for a more family-friendly, sit-down environment. CDC purchased the building for $115,000 and has put in $50,000 in rehabilitating the building.
